Why Web Video is Better Than Television?

You’re probably hearing a lot about web videos at the moment. But what exactly is it that makes web videos different from regular television advertising? I’ve put together ten reasons that will convince you that web video is better than television.
1. Makes an attractive addition to websites
Web videos can instantly jazz up any homepage. Whether you have a text-heavy website or your website is more image based, a video will provide an experience for visitors to your site, something different for them to watch as opposed to a task like reading.
2. People can interact with it immediately
Visitors to your site can tag themselves in videos and leave comments. This allows for a conversation between you and your target audience. While in the past communication has always been a one-sided conversation, it’s now a more democratic communication. This sort of interaction and engagement is a real strength of web videos and it all works towards your target audience becoming more loyal to your brand.
3. People can make their own responses
A further aspect of this interactive nature of web videos is the idea that people can make their own targeted responses. This furthers the interaction that your target audience has with your brand and works as cross promotion for both you and the response-maker, which leads into the next point.
4. Can be distributed through social networks
A big advantage of web videos is that they can be shared through Twitter, Facebook, LinkedIn, Google+ and so on. A web video is portable, it can be reduced to a link and shared in networks you never imagined possible. If people create their own responses, they will not only share their response video but the original inspiration.
As well as being embedded onto your website, videos can be blogged. Not just by you, but by others. Whether it’s on WordPress, Blogger or Tumblr, adding video to blogs has great potential to get picked up by web users across the globe. Going slightly further than simply adding a video to a blog post, there are a plethora of video blogs (vlogs) out there, which have big followings.
6. Potential to go viral
The combination of blogs and social networking can result in a viral video. While it’s possible to create a campaign specifically to go viral, it’s more likely that a video shared in specific and targeted groups will go viral. When a video reaches people it’s targeted towards, they will share it with their own networks and it will share outwards in a sort of spiral formation.
7. A few short videos can turn into a web series
As I touched on above, “vlogging” or video blogging is popular for both businesses and individuals alike. While there are many established and amateur comedians who spend lots of time vlogging, making video blogs or a one off web series can be a highly beneficial addition to your online marketing efforts. Whether these are interviews or regular Q&A sessions, they can be a good way to establish a dialogue with your targeted audience. Because video sharing sites allow you to upload as many videos as you like, it’s free to start your company’s own series of videos.
8. Web videos can drive traffic to your website
Shared in many targeted locations online, your video has the potential to drive visitors back to your website. Including your site’s URL and other important links within the video – with clickable links if your host site allows – will encourage traffic back to your website.
9. Improve SEO
When optimised appropriately, your video has the potential to really improve your Google rankings and SEO. Video search is emerging as one of the most effective ways for businesses to get found. You really want to be dominating video search now, before your competition realises how beneficial web videos are to SEO. 10. Increase web conversions
Statistics have shown that web video is a really effective way to increase web conversions. Visitors to retail websites are 85% more likely to make a purchase after viewing product video than visitors who don’t.
